Oct 30, 2010: 40 Tons of Coral in New York City at Miami Science Museum
Learn more about Dr. Roy Waldo Miner, who documented the coral reefs of the Bahamas in the 1920s and 1930s. These unique hand-colored photographic images from the collection of the Miami Science Museum document the ingenuity and technology required to collect and transport 40 tons of coral for a two-story diorama at the American Museum of Natural History.

Fashioned after the clay cliffs in Manu, Peru, this is an interactive experience with Squirrel Monkeys, free-flying macaws and parrots as well as other exotic animals. A ten minute presentation on the habits and habitats of these animals will be given by one of our Animal Care Trainers who will remain present to answer questions relating to this exhibit.

The 'Agriculture/Grove Stand' features Floridiana, a restored 1908 REO automobile and a "design your own crate label" station. 'Natural Resources' allows you to test your knowledge of the region's natural resources and supporting industries. 'Port City' tells the story of Tampa's industrial ports with a theater presentation in a cargo container and the "Tiny Tampa" play table.

On display at the Museum are 45 extraordinary examples of textiles and beadwork from a number of regions of the African continent. Highlights include a colorful Kente cloth of West Africa, beautifully beaded aprons of the Kirdi in Cameroon, a Zulu wedding cape and embellished animal skins of the San people of South Africa, as well as a number of stunning beaded crowns and headdresses of the Yoruba people of Nigeria. The Roth Collection has been recognized by Art and Antiques Magazine as one of the top 100 art collections in America.
